"Please don't work overtime unless it's absolutely necessary"

Heyho,

last week was kind of boring. My supervisor Shinji went to a conference for most of the week and left me with a lot of manual data compiling. This means comparing shit tons of data and changing or adding them in an excel sheet. Even though the data might be interesting (historical earthquakes and volcanic eruptions with their number of fatalities), the process of compiling them is tedious and monotone. But once this is done, I am sure we will move on to more exciting projects.

On Saturday I went hiking to another mountain (They do have a lot of those in Japan), namely Takao-san. Again, I was a bit disappointed in how many people there were. Additionally, it took me longer to get there than to climb and descend the mountain. However, the hike, despite being a bit too short for my taste, was beautiful. I was told I would be able to see Mount Fuji from the peak but it was too hazy. I am not leaving Japan before seeing Mount Fuji up close. I am even considering climbing up to the crater myself. From the base camp it is only about 1000 m in altitude and you can stay the night at the top and then climb down on the next day. Plans, plans,plans...
Here are some pictures of Takao-san:

Humidity is over 9000
Pray for a save ascend
Fuji should be right THERE
To save some money I didn't do anything spectacular on Sunday, just walking around and stuff...

On anther note, I do feel like I need to mention this. Apparently, Japanese people work so much that every day at 5 pm there is an announcement urging the people to not work overtime if not necessary, EVERY DAY. There is also an announcement at noon signaling the start of lunch break, and a second one at 1 pm to signal the end. Guess people would just forget to eat otherwise...
All these announcements make me feel like being back in school, it's funny.

Shinji told me he'll go hiking with me and one of his friends from the mountaineering club. Finally a proper hike!

Cheers
Nils
